Construction Lead Hand

You will lead a construction team involved with installing, repairing, diagnosing rural water & sewer systems & components. You have a passion for completing assign projects to “work of art” status. Your inability to accept sub standard work will define you as a leader. You are an enthusiastic self starter who thrives in a dynamic and interdisciplinary team environment. You are known for your can do attitude and for your creative approach to trouble shooting and addressing operational challenges.
Reporting to the Construction Manager you will perform the following:

· Operate backhoes, trackhoes or tracked loaders as required. All equipment is JD.

· Order all components required to complete assigned project.

· Complete daily site FLHA’s, site product usage sheets, sub contractor FLHA’s and all other required site safety & construction related paperwork.

· Complete daily communication updates with onsite, owner, safety officer or representative.

· Coordinate all applicable sub trades, including but not limited to; locating personnel, vacuum trucks, flush trucks, hydro vacs, crane trucks, electricians, plumbers, directional drillers just to mention a few.

· Log equipment hours, complete task tracking and perform all daily forms in paper form or digitally.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE?

· 5 years experience in operating excavating equipment with relevant certifications.

· Experience in municipal water & sewer works, project management, having leadership roles.

· Excellent communication & supervisory skills (3 + years of managing personnel)

· Adequate physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather.

· A class 3 drivers licence would be desirable. A valid, clean class 5 drivers licence is a minimum requirement.

· Must be willing and capable of adapting to and learning on a steep curve.

· Experience with a COR program desirable.

· H2S, WHMIS, Global Ground Disturbance 1&2, First Aid and other applicable training would be desirable.

Strathcona Septic is seeking a hardworking and dedicated laborer to assist in swamping in our fleet including; vacuum trucks, potable water trucks, steamer truck etc. The laborer will also be required to assist on residential and commercial construction projects in Edmonton and surrounding area.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Take direction from the supervisor, to perform labor intensive duties and operate powered equipment and tools required for construction.
  • Operate 2 ton vacuum trucks
  • Perform housekeeping activities such as cleaning equipment and tools, and general cleaning of the worksite
  • Perform repetitive tasks in a safe and responsible manner
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and safety checks when required
  • Observe and recommend any operational efficiencies, processes, and procedure improvements, if any.
  • Competently & consistently perform required paperwork.
  • Consistently follow safety procedures to target zero incidents, lost time, injuries, property damages, and/or environmental releases
  • Regular communication with the Construction Manager and/or General Manager to maintain a high level of understanding about the work, resources, and overall client satisfaction.
  • Promptly taking a proactive approach to assess and mitigate hazardous conditions ensures that all Safety and Operational activities are successful.
  • Assist with other tasks as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • H2S, First Aid and Confined Space certificates are considered an asset
  • Clean drivers abstract with a class 5 drivers endorsement is required

Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year of Swamper and/or Labourer experience
  • Mature individual with strong communication skills
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • No criminal record (required for commercial site clearance)

Additional Position Information and Requirements:

  • Monday to Friday, with potential for overtime and weekends based on job requirement. Shifts may require occasional extension to ensure work is completed fully
  • Must be available to be on-call for evenings and weekends every 4-6 weeks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs is required

Salary: $17.00-$18.50 per hour
